MIKE REMLINGER  –  PLYMOUTH NORTH H.S. PITCHING COACH

Former Cincinnati Reds  –  MLB All Star Pitcher

As a former MLB pitcher, All Star and veteran of 20 professional seasons I can truly appreciate the tremendous value of the E-Pak system for our baseball team. A secure connection between coach and catcher allows me to focus solely on what my pitcher and catcher need from me during a game without having to worry about signs being stolen by an opposing coach or misread by my catcher. Also, an unanticipated benefit has been the ability to coach my young catchers more (or less) and educate them about pitch selection and handling a pitching staff during the game.

We have used both the K-Pro and T1 earpieces and the T1 is definitely preferred by our catchers wearing hockey style masks as they stay in their ear very well and require very little adjustment during an inning.

Overall, I think this system is tremendous. It replaces an area of the game that can take away from a pitcher’s rhythm, especially with an inexperienced catcher and/or runners on base and also adds the ability to coach your catcher in live situations. One of the areas I think the game has changed the most is what we expect out of our catchers in todays game, they used to be the field generals, always watching everything in front of them and making the necessary adjustments but now they spend a great of their time looking away from the field into the dugout for signs and I think that leads to a less aware, less developed catcher.

In my opinion, the E-Pak system is more than just a means to relay signs to my catcher; it’s a key piece in your catchers development as well as your pitchers. Catchers that can call and manage a game well are a tremendous asset and are some of the most sought after backstops in the game; there is no doubt in my mind that a good coach can absolutely improve a catcher’s ability to manage the game and to learn how to manage his pitchers and ultimately get more out of them through the use of this system.

Thank you,
Mike Remlinger

FAQ

The Porta Phone EPak-XR is a professional-grade wireless coach-to-player communication system designed for baseball and softball teams. It enables full-duplex, hands-free voice transmission from coaches directly to players on the field during practices, scrimmages, and games.

Yes, the EPak-XR system complies with NCAA and NFHS baseball and softball rules for coach-to-player communication on game days.

The system offers unlimited scalability. A coach can transmit to a single receiver (e.g., just the catcher) or expand the setup up to 9 or more fielders across the field.

Players wear a compact receiver on an armband. Audio can be output through the built-in wrist speaker, connected via wired earbuds, or paired with wireless Bluetooth headsets such as bone-conduction headsets.

The EPak-XR uses Active Spread Spectrum Frequency Hopping operating on the 900MHz band. It continuously shifts across frequencies to ensure secure, clear, and uninterrupted signals in stadium environments.
